......Professor Dr. Pinyo
Suwankiri was born in Songkla, the South of Thailand in 1937.
He shows his extraordinary talent in art since the age of 7. He
was trained and taught to draw and paint by Prakru Dhamma Dhary,
a Buddhist monk, including, wood sculptures in works of Thai ornaments
and decorations for Buddhist temple, Schools and houses. He has
accumulated his skill in arts and architecture during his secondary
and high school in order to earn some money to help finance himself
for studying. Therefore, he has been well trained to become a
famous architect since he was still young.
......In 1957,
he came to study in the Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn
University, and made use of his former knowledge on Thai architecture
for his degree. When he graduated in 1968, he was accepted to
work as a lecturer in Thai architecture in the same University.
Later, in 1972, he had a chance to further his education for his
Master’s degree in the University of Pennsylvania and returned
to teach again at his home university as a specialist in Thai
architecture until the present time.
......Beside Thai
architecture, he also realized the value of Thai traditional sports,
local games and Thai
classical music. He has devoted himself to preserve this precious
local wisdom and has pursued his life as the real Thai way of
life.
......Professor Dr.Pinyo Suwankiri married to Mrs. Lawan and has 3 daughters.
