The Shrine of Songdhum Temple, Pichit
The aim of the shrine is
for enshrining the gigantic Buddha image known as ‘Loung Por Ong
Dum: Buddha in Black). Since this temple locates in the Northern
part of Thailand, the unique Northern style of architecture is
applied to the shrine which can be seen at the decoration above
the main door of the shrine’s entrance and the unique columns
inside. Since the people around the temple have a belief in Naga
(the holy giant snake), the shrine decoration at the gable, the
roof, the handrail at the staircase and all small details are
inspired by Naga.
